AUCT 120 -- Living in the Environment

This course offers some exciting labs and field trips. A bereft description of some past field trips might help you understand why this course is all about. A visit to the Water Treatment and Sewage Treatment plants is scheduled every year. This shows us how water is treated before we use it and after we use it. The Connecticut Resources recovery Authority is enjoyed by most students as is the Rainbow Fishway. At the millstone science we learn how thermal pollution can become thermal enrichment. We also visit Co-Generation plants and solar heated homes, monitor air and water for the E.P.A. both on and off campus.

Other off campus activities include the biological monitoring of Connecticut streams and Long Island Sound. We visit science museums, Sugar houses, Fish hatcheries, U.S.D.A. exp stations and many more. You may also elect to work on the U. of H. Nature Trail that is an on-going part of this class.
