Discovering Britain is a three-week interdisciplinary academic program
focusing on British history, art, literature, and culture. This exciting
program includes both classroom instruction and extensive travel in Britain
with guided trips to such fabled sites as London, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick,
and Stonehenge. These expeditions will highlight the educational experience
by bringing the classroom instruction and texts to life!
Designed as an exploration of British Heritage during study in England,
this integrative course in the Humanities will introduce students to the
major prose and poetic works, historical and political events, and culture
of the late Medieval and Early Elizabethan or Victorian Era. By studying
in England, students have opportunities to integrate their study of history,
literature, and art with field trips to museums, historical sites, authors'
homes, galleries, theatres, castles, and manors. A total of six credits
must be taken.
Discovering Britain will be conducted at Herford College which was founded
in 1284 and is part of Oxford University. Oxford includes thirty-six independent,
self-contained, self-governing colleges and six Permanent Private Halls
which combine the very best of the old and new; a sense of history and tradition
with the best minds of today. |
