1961
ELNA LINDSDTROM STRATTON (HCW) of Girardville, Pa., is spending "a delightful year" as vicar of a small Lutheran church in the coal mining region of Pennsylvania and assisting her supervising pastor in a nearby parish. "If all goes well," she writes, "I'll finally be eligible to be ordained later this year." Her present location has the added advantage of being only 90 miles from Elna's daughter and her family, including a five-year-old granddaughter.
1962
DOROTHY BOSCH KELLER (ART, MEd '63) of Marlborough, Conn., has received a Distinguished Alumnae Award for 1999 from Saint Joseph College, West Hartford, Conn., where she is professor of fine arts. Dorothy is chair of the department of fine arts and performing arts at Saint Joseph's. In January 2000, she had photographs on display at the Director's Gallery, Hartford, as part of a juried exhibit of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts and Hartford Art School. She received the Distinguished Alumnae Award for "her exceptional ability to promote the arts through education and exchange," and her "high standard for the appreciation and study of art." She is "[r]evered by her students, respected in the community, and admired by her colleagues...," the citation read.
1964
GLORIA LARSEN (ART, MEd '72) of New Hartford, Conn., and Cape Coral, Fla., who retired from teaching art in 1988, continues to work and exhibit her sculpture, mixed-media, and prints. She participated in the July 1999 Hartford Art School alumni show at the Josoloff Gallery and has received a number of awards for her work. She received first prize from the Schneider Center, Ft. Myers, for a ceramic sculpture titled "Island Ladies"; Purchase Prize from BIGArts, Sanibel, for a ceramic relief sculpture, "My Universe," which is permanently installed at the Cape Coral Cultural Arts Theater; and first prize from the Phillips Gallery, Sanibel, for a mixed-media relief, "The Shape of Things."
RICHARD PILON (A&S) of Fort Myers, Fla., has retired after more than 30 years from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. He maintains a second home in Rocky Hill, Conn.
HARVEY R. SNITKIN (HARTT) of Niantic, Conn., has been taking part in a number of book events promoting his book, Practicing for Young Musicians: You Are Your Own Teacher, which has gone into its second printing. Recently he shared the podium at two "teacher appreciation events" with children's author Teri Daniels and Ron Schwartz, editor of For the Love of Books, at two New York City locations of Borders Books and Music.
DONALD G. SPENCER (ENHP, MEd, CAGS '69) of Commerce, Ga., writes that he retired in 1976 because of multiple sclerosis and is almost totally paralyzed. He can move the thumb and forefinger of his left hand to control the TV channels. His wife had a massive stroke in March, 1991. They share a room at an excellent facility located in the mountains of northeast Georgia. They have family including grandchildren and two great grandchildren who live nearby and see them frequently. "I have many fond memories of the University," he writes, having spent nine years part-time and earned two degrees.
1968
ALAN A. FIELDING (ENG) of Bernalillo, N.M., retired as industrial engineer with U.S. Air Force contract management in 1990 and then spent seven years traveling as "a full-time RVer." He and his wife, Theresa, visited 43 of the 48 continental states. In 1998 he attended the 50th reunion of the Rockville, Conn., high school class of 1948.
CAROLYN ROBBINS SIEGEL (HCW) of Albuquerque, N.M., is practicing architecture in partnership with her husband, Jonathan, as Seigel Design Architects. Their designs, for which they have won AIA awards, include schools, health clinics, residences, community centers, and churches. Carolyn has also been learning to throw pottery, "just to keep things in balance," she says.

ANDRZEJ ANWEILER (HARTT) of New Britain, Conn., was featured piano soloist at the October 1999 opening of the New Britain Symphony Orchestra's 51st Season, performing Khachaturian's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra.
RICHARD BOOTH (BARNEY '75 MSPA) of South Glastonbury, Conn., has been named president and CEO of HSB Group, Inc., the parent company of Hartford Steam Boiler. Dick has been a member of HSB Group's board of directors since July, 1996, and was vice president of strategic development of Phoenix Home Life Insurance Company prior to his recent appointment. He is a former University of Hartford regent.
RICHARD P. GALL (A&S) of East Brunswick, N.J., recently received a private pilot's license from Raritan Valley Flying School at the Princeton Airport, Princeton, N.J.
