1970

SONYA M. DEAN (HCW) of Windsor, Conn., has been appointed to the board of directors at Windsor Federal Savings and Loan Association, Windsor.

ROBERT B. HICKEY (ENG) of Burlington, Conn., is the author of The Electrical Engineer's Portable Handbook, published by McGraw-Hill. He describes the book as a "personal tool that compacts 20 percent of the data that is needed, 80 percent of the time, by electrical design professionals in the building industry." It is designed as a time-saver that also provides quick calculation methods and rules of thumb. Bob was recently elected chairman of the Capital Community-Technical College foundation board.

1971

PATRICIA FARGNOLI (HCW) of Keene, N.H., has won the 1999 May Swenson Poetry Award for her first book of poetry, Necessary Light, judged by Pulitzer Prize–winner Mary Oliver. Patricia has retired from social work and now teaches poetry part time at the Keene Institute of Music and Related Arts. Necessary Light was published in August 1999 by Utah State University Press and is available through the Press, independent bookstores, or Amazon.com.

ALAN GREEN (A&S, MPA) of Bloomfield, Conn., has formed a partnership, Green-Wilson & Associates, LLC, with Donald K. Wilson, Jr., to provide management consulting services to corporate and organizational philanthropy programs. Alan is a prominent leader in the nonprofit community and has developed a national reputation in the area of management issues. He is former executive director of the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven and former associate director of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.

EDMUND J. SCHWARTZ (BARNEY) of Dunwoody, Ga., has been appointed vice president and chief financial officer of Lund International Holdings, Inc., based in Anoka, Minn., a manufacturer and marketer of automotive accessories. Edmund was previously employed by the Electrolux Corporation as chief financial officer.

MICHAEL MARINACCIO (BARNEY) of Somers, Conn., served as co-director of the industrial division for the 1999 Meriden (Conn.) United Way Campaign.

1973

WILLIAM J. LAZZARI (BARNEY) of Marlborough, Conn., has been appointed president of Stowe Machine Company, Inc., Windsor. He has been general manager of the company for the past 17 years.

DAVID MACBRIDE (HARTT) of West Hartford, Conn., recently completed a commissioned work titled First Ending for Dana Brayton and the Funk Project, scheduled for premier April 1, 2000, at the Boston Conservatory of Music. A new CD, Conundrum: The Percussion Music of David Macbride, featuring Benjamin Toth, has been released by Innova Recordings of American Composers Forum. David is associate professor of composition and theory at The Hartt School, and Benjamin Toth is associate professor of percussion.

1974

SAMUEL PURUSHOTHAM (BARNEY) of Holden, Mass., is manager of the New England United Methodist Federal Credit Union of Northboro, Mass.

ASTORIA RIDLEY (HCW) of Hamden, Conn., has received two scholarships to continue her study toward a master's degree in library science at Southern Connecticut State University. She received one of the first American Library Association Spectrum Scholarships of $5,000, begun in 1998 "to address the specific issues of underrepresentation of critically needed ethnic librarians within the profession." She also received a New England Library Association scholarship of $2,500. Astoria works full–time at the New Haven Free Public Library and plans to complete her studies by the end of the year 2000.

TREVOR THORINGTON (BARNEY) of Windsor, Conn., has joined the staff of the Connecticut State University System office in Hartford, Conn., as executive officer of finance.

1975

MARLOW "DOTTIE" SHAMI (ART) of Beacon Falls, Conn., has launched her new company, NaturalSense. She writes that this venture allows her "to draw together her expertise in the fine arts, communication, healing and nature." She is also on the faculty of Touching Spirit Center, Litchfield, Conn., and is a certified Integral Yoga teacher and student of ecopsychology.

1976

PAMELA DEPAOLO (HARTT) of Southington, Conn., was the subject of a recent feature article in the Southington Observer, tracing her participation in the family business, DePaolo's Furniture, which was founded by her grandparents in 1926. Pamela had initially planned a career as an opera singer and won a Metropolitam Opera audition at the age of 24. Later she changed career direction and studied design, a skill and talent she exercises through the family business, where she has worked for 16 years and of which she is currently co-owner.

HECTOR RIVERA (BARNEY, MPA) of Falls Church, Va., has been chosen by the selectmen to be executive secretary of the town of Braintree, Mass. Hector most recently was city manager of Falls Church, Va., and has experience in town, county, state and federal government dating back to 1974.

DANIEL W. SHARP (BARNEY, MPA) of Glastonbury, Conn., has been appointed chair of the real estate/construction committee of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants for the organization's current activity year. Daniel is controller for the Daylar Group, Middletown, Conn.

1977

DONNA CORBETT (HARTT, MMUS) of Simsbury, Conn., has joined the faculty of Dodd Middle School in Cheshire, Conn., as teacher and band director. Donna, who has been teaching for 23 years, has been a master teacher for student interns at The Hartt School and a guest conductor for the American School Band Director's Association and band chairperson.

MARJORIE CARMOM D'AGATA (HCW) of Windsor, Conn., is working full–time at Windsor High School, where she runs the career resource center. She and her husband started their own retail monument sales business, D'Agata Granite & Bronze, in January 1999, where she works as bookkeeper after school and on Saturdays.

TRACEY STEVENS DERY (HCW) of Pine Meadow, Conn., is studying for her bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut and is working part–time as secretary at the North Congregational Church, New Hartford. She writes that she and classmate AMY PARKER maintain their friendship.

ELAINE LAPAN (A&S) of Enfield, Conn., has been honored by MetLife Auto & Home, a brand of Metropolitan Property and Casualty Insurance Company, for outstanding sales achievement. By meeting production and quality requirements, she attained the designation of advanced property and casualty council member.

1978

PAUL BISACCIA (HARTT) of Hartford, Conn., concert pianist, performed an all-Chopin program in October, sponsored by the East Lyme (Conn.) Public Library.

LEONARD S. COHEN (BARNEY, MBA) of West Hartford, Conn., has been appointed to the Board of Governors for Higher Education, the state coordinating agency for colleges and universities.

SUZANNE MCCAUGHTRY (HCW) of Keene, N.H., is employed at her husband's CPA firm in Keene and continues to teach figure skating.

1979

JAYNE HARE DANE (HARTT) of Heath, Mass., reports that after 14 years as music director at The Academy at Charlemont, Mass., she opened a gallery on Nantucket with her husband, Robert, a glassblower and sculptor. Nantucket GlassWorks/Dane Gallery, in its fourth year of operation, "represents some of the top artists in glass, ceramics, and art jewelry" and counts First Lady Hillary Clinton among its visitors. Jayne and Robert also maintain a home and glass studio in the Berkshires.

FR. ROBERT J. DEEHAN (A&S, MA) of Manomet, Mass., is currently pastor of St. Bonaventure Parish, Plymouth, Mass. He also supervises and provides spiritual direction to seminarians in the theological education program of St. John's Seminary, Brighton, Mass. Fr. Deehan has served Catholic parishes in Brookline, West Roxbury, Somerville, Medford, and Lynn, Mass.

SUSAN LORICCHIO (HARTT) of Jersey City, N.J., is director of music and organist for the Teaneck (N.J.) United Methodist Church. She recently completed graduate study in vocal performance and pedagogy at Westminster Choir College, Princeton, N.J., and in January sang with the Carnegie Hall Festival Chorus 2000 and Orchestra of St. Luke's at Carnegie Hall under the direction of conductor James Conlon.

KIM NEWLAND-CARTER (A&S) of Hartford, Conn., has joined ETP's WorkMax division as an EAP counselor/contract manager.

RUTH J. RAINER (A&S, MA) of Elverson, Pa., is "semi-retired and traveling a great deal." She has 10 grandchildren. Ruth writes that she would love to hear from other 1979 graduates of the clinical psychology master's program.

FREDERICK VOGEL (BARNEY) of Fairfax Station, Va., and his family moved in January 1999 to northern Virginia. He and his wife, Brenda, have three children, Ricky (13), Jameson (6), and Eliza (3). Rick is regional manager for group life and disability sales for Hartford Life Insurance Company in the D.C. office. He has completed 20 years in the group insurance business.

PAMELA WEAVER (BARNEY, MSPA) of Burlington, Conn., has joined the tax and accounting staff of Federman, Lally & Remis LLC of Farmington.
