SISTER BARBARA MULLIN (A&S, MA) of West Hartford, Conn., has received a national award for her work in the community affairs department at St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury, Conn. The 1999 Crystal Award of Excellence for print media in the Communicator Awards competition recognized Sister Barbara's series of columns that promoted St. Mary's "Feel the Difference" campaign among hospital employees. The columns appeared in the hospital's monthly employee newsletter. Sister Barbara has worked in the community affairs department at the hospital since 1995.

JOHN COOKLEY (BARNEY, MBA) of Southington, Conn., has been appointed vice president and commercial loan officer of Southington (Conn.) Savings Bank. He was previously vice president/commercial loan officer of Webster Bank, Bristol. John is president of the Bristol Regional Environmental Center.
ROBIN KADET (A&S) of Portsmouth, R.I., has accepted a new position with Experian, a global information solutions and consulting company, based in Albany, N.Y. As channel marketing manager, Robin will provide comprehensive information management solutions to catalog and retail industries.

MADELYN COLON (BARNEY, MPA) of West Simsbury, Conn., was honored in October at the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford, by La Casa de Puerto Rico, Inc., for her contributions to Hartford's Puerto Rican community. Madelyn is assistant state treasurer.
JEFFREY CRYSTAL (BARNEY) of West Orange, N.J., has been appointed vice president and financial advisor for Morgan Stanley Dean Witter in Short Hills, N.J.
JENNIFER SZWALEK HUNSINGER (A&S) of Mount Laurel, N.J., has been named public relations director/vice president of communications for Association Headquarters in Moorestown, N.J. In her new position she will oversee the public relations, communications, and marketing needs of all Association Headquarters clients. Additionally, she will act as industry spokesperson and will coordinate promotion of the annual trade show.
GLENN KLOCKO (BARNEY, MBA) of Southington, Conn., recently passed the first three of five exams given by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The certification program recognizes commitment to excellence in the field of finance management.
DANIEL KORNEGAY (ART) of Bristol, Conn., is currently art director of Cashman & Katz Advertising and Public Relations, Glastonbury, Conn.
PATRICK SHEEHAN (ENHP) of Orlando, Fla., has had considerable success playing golf on the Florida mini-tours and was top money winner on the Golden Bear tour in 1998. Because of a hand injury, he was unable to play for four months in 1999 but returned to competition in September, competing successfully in the Rhode Island Golf Association's Fleet Open.
JOONA SOHN (ART) of Hartford, Conn., has accepted a position as senior designer with Keiler & Co., Farmington, Conn.
THOMAS VIALLANEIX (BARNEY, MBA '93) of West Hartford, Conn., writes that he is returning to France, where he is a citizen, for a new position in the hightech field after six years, working for an oil and gas trading company in Houston, Saudi Arabia, and the Philippines.
SUSAN YANKEE (HARTT, MMus) of Columbia, Mo., performed a benefit concert last summer with her husband, tenor Eric Dillner, for the benefit of Friends of the Deep River (Conn.) Library. Susan, a mezzo-soprano, is well known in the Hartt community and in the New Haven area.

LAURA SZALAY (ENHP) of Norwich, Conn., has been teaching bilingual special education at various levels since graduation from the University. In addition to her current teaching position in Windham, Conn., she teaches piano and is studying medicinal herbalism.
STEVE VACCI (HARTT, MMus) of Baton Rouge, La., is featured bassoonist on a new CD of classical works by Edward Hines, entitled An American in Istanbul. The disc is available at www.hinesmusic.com and includes four pieces based on classical Turkish modes. He also recorded J. S. Bach's complete work, "The Art of the Fugue," with the Trio 335 (oboe, bassoon, accordion) for release this winter. Trio 335 has been invited to perform at the 2000 conference of the International Double Reed Society in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Steve continues as faculty member at Wichita State University and principal bassoonist of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra.

MICHELLE MISTRETTA CLARK (ENHP) of Naugatuck, Conn., has been hired by Danbury Hospital to initiate and run a new molecular pathology laboratory. Michelle reports that the lab is in operation, and she is researching new techniques.
LYNN DIONNE (BARNEY, MBA) of Bristol, Conn., has received a start-up business loan for her Southington (Conn.) store, The Stampers' Cove. Located in River Bend Plaza, the store boasts 20,000 rubber stamps as well as assorted art supplies. Hudson United Bank granted the small business loan in response to Lynn's detailed business plan.
PETER GRIESINGER (HARTT) of Brooklyn, N.Y., has recorded his first album as second guitarist with Fabio Morgera's Slick on Red Records. Recorded on LoFi Records with the swing band Bim Bam Baby, the name of the record is Who's Gonna Love Me Tonight, distributed by Hepcat. Peter self-produced his first CD as lead guitarist in May 1999. He recently began studying Indian classical music and has picked up the sitar.
XUE MEI ZOU (HARTT, MMus) of West Hartford, Conn., has been appointed to the faculty of the Community Music School, Ivoryton, according to the Centerbrook Main Street News. She is former principal flutist with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra.

DAVID ABRUTYN (BARNEY) of West Hartford, Conn., has been named director, corporate representation, by IMG, a sports and leisure marketing and sales promotion company based in Cleveland, Ohio. He will be responsible primarily for new business development. Previously David worked for the National Hockey League on national partnerships, including FedEx, Norelco, Wendy's, and Yahoo!, and assisted in managing the League's marketing programs.
CAROLYN MILLER-BARRINGTON (HCW) of Spring, Texas, writes that she and her husband, Ronnie, bought their first house and a puppy last year. She is currently working for a public relations firm in Houston and writing a fantasy novel.
LOUIS D'ANGELI (A&S) of Gladwyne, Pa., became a full-time promoter for Extreme Championship Wrestling in August 1999. He had worked for ECW since 1995 as "Sign Guy Dudley," an on-air talent position. Lou has also worked in promotion for top-rated WBEB-FM in Philadelphia.
LISA MACBRIDE (ART, MFA) of West Hartford is exhibiting her recent watercolors in a two-person show at 100 Pearl Street Gallery, Hartford, through April 1. Many of the works were exhibited in Lima, Peru, in February and March 1999.
JANINE MCCAULEY (A&S) of Worcester, Mass., graduated from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in June 1999 and is currently an internal medicine resident at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester.

MICHAEL ALGIERE (BARNEY, MST) of Durham, Conn., has been promoted to vice president at Jones Lang LaSalle real estate, Hartford, Conn.
JOHN CLANCY (HARTT) of Newtown, Conn., offered a workshop in percussion instruments and basic songwriting to middle school students in Newtown during September. The program was sponsored by Youth Services and limited to 10 students interested in exotic drums and other percussion instruments. John has performed from coast to coast, including the Goodspeed Opera House in eastern Connecticut, and recently has worked in both pop/rock venues and theater.
JEANETTE CARDON DAYLEY (ART) of Tempe, Ariz., has successfully completed her master of fine arts thesis project, in addition to giving birth to Matthew last semester.
JESSICA REIFER (A&S) of Torrance, Calif., received her MA degree in political theory from the New School for Social Research in New York City in 1999. Jessica is playing soccer professionally in Switzerland for the DFC Malters of the Swiss Premier League. Playing for the New York Magic of the United Soccer Leagues in 1999, she broke USL single season records for goals and points in a season with 28 goals, five assists, and 61 points. At the University, she was a three-time All-America soccer player.
DEBRA SALOWITZ (ENHP, MEd) of Amston, Conn., has joined the public relations firm of Andrea Obston Marketing Communications in Bloomfield, Conn., as director of operations. Debra is currently adjunct professor of history at the University and is president of the University's Greater Hartford Alumni Chapter. She previously was an officer and reinsurance marketing specialist for General Re.
JEFFREY SPADJINSKE (A&S) of Meriden, Conn., has joined the Coventry, Conn., police department and has completed a 13-week training program. Jeff was featured in a recent Willimantic (CT) Chronicle article describing his unusual first day on the job, accompanying a group of officers into the Mansfield woods in search of an illegal marijuana crop.
1997
MELISSA FORTIN (ENHP) of Farmington, Conn., has received a Dr. Edward P. Dunne Scholarship of $4,000 toward her studies at Quinnipiac University, Hamden, Conn., where she is enrolled in the college physician assistant program. The award was voted by the board of directors of the scholarship fund at its quarterly meeting in June, 1999.
MICHELE JAQUIS (ART) of Providence, R.I., is currently a second-year sculpture student in the master of fine arts degree program at the Rhode Island School of Design and a teaching assistant in the visual arts department at Brown University. During the past year her work has been included in group shows in Provincetown, Philadelphia, Boston, and Providence. Most recently she performed "The Memory of Necessary Action" and exhibited her video installation "Distillation and Exchange" at Mason Gross School of Art, Rutgers University, for a multi-school exhibition, "Y2K Solution: Creative Moves into the 21st Century."
JOHN JEPSON (BARNEY, MBA) of Newington, Conn., has been promoted to vice president of the Hartford commercial business unit of First International Bank. He has previously been credit analyst for the bank and a member of the commercial business unit managing his own portfolio.
MARLO MARRERO (ART, MFA) of Hartford, Conn., is a visual and performance artist who has organized the Art on a Stick Parade for three years, most recently in October 1999. Participants marched through Hartford carrying, dragging, performing, and hauling their art through the city.
DUWAN SMITH (A&S) of Buffalo, N.Y., spent the summer of 1999 interning for Supreme Court Justice William Rheinquest and is now attending Columbia Law School in New York.

CHRIS L'ETOILE (A&S) of Woonsocket, R.I., is employed as a computer game designer at Turbine Entertainment Software, Westwood, Mass. The company's first game, "Acheron's Call," is being published by Microsoft. Chris writes, "Yes, I'm actually using my degree."
JUDITH SALVATORE-MAGALHES (ENHP, MSN) of Middlebury, Conn., has joined the staff of Waterbury (Conn.) Hospital as breast health coordinator and outpatient testing coordinator. She will also be offering educational programs to the community.
KARA NADEAU (A&S) of Marlborough, Mass., has been appointed to the position of public relations and special events manager for Prevent Blindness Massachusetts, the state's only volunteer eye health and safety organization dedicated solely to fighting blindness and saving sight. Kara was formerly employed at the Chestnut Hill School as development assistant.
MARILYN ROSSETTI (A&S) of Hartford, Conn., was elected to the Hartford City Council in November 1999. Marilyn, who received a bachelor's degree from the College of Arts and Sciences, is now pursuing a second bachelor's degree in politics and government.

STEVE GILEWSKI (HARTT) of Southington, Conn., introduced a hometown audience to the percussive sounds of a professional steel band, Pan Caribe, at a recent concert at the First Congregational Church, Southington. Steve, who plays bass with the group, became interested in the steel drum when he was a student of Benjamin Toth, director of Hartt's percussive program and founder of Pan Caribe.
TRACY HOGAN (BARNEY, MBA) of Middletown, Conn., has been named account manager by KGA Advertising, a marketing communications firm. She will oversee major accounts, including the Canon Greater Hartford Open.
PETER SCALARO (BARNEY, MST) of Wethersfield, Conn., and REBECCA BOCCARDI ZAPPONE (BARNEY, MST) have received promotions at Haggett, Longobari & Co., of Glastonbury. Peter has been named director, and Rebecca has been promoted to supervisor.
SCOTT SCORSO (ART) of Manchester, Conn., has joined the faculty at East Catholic High School, Manchester, as an art teacher.
JULIE TURNER (ENG) of Skaneateles, N.Y., has taken on the nation in amateur golf competition. Competing in the US Women's Amateur qualifying test, she secured one of three spots allocated to the Massachusetts region for the USGA tournament in North Carolina last August.
