Hawks Soccer Teams are Champs

Both the Hartford Hawks men's and women's soccer teams claimed America East regular season titles, won their respective conference tournaments, and advanced to the NCAA Soccer Cup this fall. At press time, the women's team had reached the NCAA quarterfinals after knocking off defending national champion Florida and Virginia, both on the road. The youthful men's squad pushed sixth-ranked Connecticut to the limit in their opening-round NCAA tournament game on Nov. 21. The Hawks carried a 1-0 lead into the late stages of regulation, but UConn converted a penalty kick with 17 minutes left and then won the match with a goal in the fourth sudden death overtime period.
