Jane Nelson, director of the Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, will deliver the Ellsworth Lecture on “Global Corporate Citizenship: Building on America’s Philanthropic Traditions to Invest in the Future.”

The lecture will take place on Wednesday, March 26, at 4:30 p.m., in Wilde Auditorium, Harry Jack Gray Center, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required.

In addition to being a senior fellow and director of the Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Nelson is also a director at the International Business Leaders Forum, and a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, a policy studies think tank. During 2001 she worked with the UN Secretary-General’s office writing a General Assembly report on UN business partnerships. She previously was vice president at Citibank, where she was responsible for marketing in the bank’s Worldwide Securities Services business in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Nelson has written several reports on global corporate citizenship for the World Economic Forum, as well as four books and more than 50 other publications on public-private partnerships and corporate responsibility. She serves on a number of public and nonprofit advisory boards and Cambridge University’s Business and Poverty leadership program.

Nelson describes corporate social responsibility as how companies manage their core business activities—their workplace practices, impact of their products and services, how they manage relationships, their philanthropy, and their engagement in public policy dialogue.

The Ellsworth Lecture program, presented by the University and its Barney School of Business, is aimed at promoting an awareness of and an appreciation for the American business system. It was created in 1979 by Ensign-Bickford Industries, Inc., to honor its former chairman, the late John E. Ellsworth.

For tickets, call the University box office at 860.768.4228 or 1.800.274.8587.
