Duties of the Ombudsman
The ombudsman will listen to your concerns, help clarify issues, and resolve conflict by referring you to appropriate services and assisting in developing options. The ombudsman can help facilitate the next steps by identifying alternatives and discussing the pros and cons.
The Office of the Ombudsman
The ombudsman's office was created as an alternate channel for communication, with the understanding that communications with the ombudsman are confidential and will not be disclosed unless permission is given in the course of discussion with the ombudsman or when there is an imminent risk of serious harm.
The ombudsman does not make decisions or mandate changes to policies and procedures, nor does he "take sides" in a dispute.
In addition, the University has many other helpful resources available to assist employees. If appropriate, the ombudsman refers people to other channels, including, but not limited to, the equal opportunity officer, human resources, safety and environmental health, internal audit, and public safety.
