First Annual Career Readiness Academy

As a major initiative in the College of Arts and Sciences, we have developed a career preparation course, which focuses on matching students’ strengths with potential career paths, job search strategies, cover letter and resume writing, interview skills, etc. As part of the course this spring, we held the first annual Career Readiness Academy where students had an opportunity to interact with and learn from professionals in the field.

The event took place on Friday, April 14th, 2-3:30 pm in the Konover Campus Center. Ten members of the A&S Advisory Board participated, as well as the Dialogue 200 instructors, and members of Career Services.

The event began with a mingling and networking session for students to practice their networking skills. Then, students broke off into brainstorming groups with the Board Members to answer questions such as: “what are some things to do or to avoid during an interview?” After the groups worked together, they reported out to the larger audience. Finally, the event ended with a panel session where students asked the board members questions such as “what was the worst thing that ever happened to you on an interview?”
