Born and raised in New York City, Harvey Jassem came to the University of Hartford after earning his B.A. in Political Science from Queens College of the City University of New York, his M.A. in Speech Communication from Ohio State University, and his Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Professor Jassem teaches courses related to mediated communication, such as "Introduction to Media," "Media and Society," and courses on communication law, emerging media, and alternative media. Volunteering his time on the air at WWUH radio for over 25 years is a natural outlet, given his love of music and media. With more than 20 scholarly publications and 40 scholarly papers, primarily in the area of media policy and emerging media, Dr. Jassem is dedicated to using theory and research to address current issues and problems. Over the years he has been a Scholar in Residence at New York University and MIT's Media Lab, an American Council on Education Fellow, and an Executive Board member of Urban Communication Foundation.
