Hwayeon Ryu joined us in the College of Arts and Sciences in January 2017, after teaching at St. Olaf College and working as quantitative analyst in Minnesota. She is a member of the following: the American Mathematical Society (AMS), the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), the Intercollegiate Biomathematics Alliance (IBA), and the Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics, and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS).

Hwayeon is a mathematical biologist whose research interest is in modeling the feedback-mediated dynamics in the kidney and clustering in neural networks. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outside playing tennis during the summer and skiing during the winter.
