Ralph O. Mueller, PhD

Ralph O. Mueller was appointed dean of the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP) in 2009. He holds faculty rank as professor of educational leadership in the College of ENHP and as professor of psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences. Mueller served as founding director of ENHP’s Institute for Translational Research and is a member of the governing boards of the two University-associated public magnet schools. In 2010, he helped negotiate the affiliation between the University and Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center and was instrumental in forging the 2011 partnership with the Hartford Public School System.

Before joining the University of Hartford, Mueller was professor of educational research and of public policy and public administration at The George Washington University in D.C. (1993–2009) and served as chair of its Department of Educational Leadership from 2001 to 2006. During the 2007-08 academic year, he was a fellow of the American Council on Education and special assistant to the provost at the University of Miami, Fla.

Mueller is a mathematician (BA, Elon College, 1983; MA, Wake Forest University, 1984) and applied statistician (PhD, Virginia Tech, 1987) who started his academic career at the University of Toledo, OH (1987-1993). He has authored and co-edited several applied statistics texts and numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and chapters on applications of multivariate statistical techniques. Mueller has worked as consultant for agencies such as the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Education, and the World Bank. He currently serves on the boards of several prominent methodological and applied journals. A 1979/80 Rotary International Scholar, Mueller holds deeply rooted commitments to shared governance, diversity in all of its forms, internationalization, pedagogy, and multi- and interdisciplinary teaching, scholarship, and research.
