Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology

Thank you for your interest in the Master's in Clinical Practices program at the University of Hartford. The Clinical Practices in Psychology program is a full-time program, with a two-year sequence of course work and practicum experiences, leading to the Master of Arts.

The mission of the Clinical Practices Masters Program is to develop clinical psychologists who are competent in all aspects of psychotherapy, psychological assessment, and clinical research. Our further goal is to provide students with the ability to assess new developments in our discipline and to utilize new discoveries for the benefit of their clients and to generate positive changes in our culture.

Course Requirements for the Master of Arts Major

Learning Outcomes for the Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology

  1. Students will become sensitive to diverse clinical problems. This is monitored on an ongoing basis through practicum supervisor reports and scores on the clinical comprehensive examination.
  2. Students will be able to utilize behavioral and psychological assessment tools. This is monitored on a verbal basis through practicum reports, comprehensive examination, and grades in the assessment courses.
  3. Students will be able to utilize various treatment techniques. This is monitored through practicum supervisor reports, completion of the comprehensive examination, and grades in various testing courses.
  4. Students will be able to evaluate ongoing research in clinical psychology. This is monitored on an ongoing basis through course grades and classroom discussions, grades on the research course, and scores on the comprehensive examination.
  5. Students will become knowledgeable about the many theoretical approaches to clinical diagnosis and treatment  and develop an appreciation and an understanding of how a psychologist functions within the professional and on-professional community. This is monitored through classroom discussions with faculty, practicum supervisor reports, and grades on the comprehensive examination.
