Joseph C. Voelker is the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Hartford. In 2007-08, he served as Interim Provost of the University of Hartford. He came to Hartford in 2003 after 28 years at Franklin and Marshall College where he was Professor of English and Associate Dean of Faculty He received his AB degree from Franklin and Marshall, in 1969, cum laude, and his PhD from Yale University in English Language and Literature in 1975. In addition to teaching and doing research in Irish and American literature, Voelker has studied French language and literature at the University of Nantes, France, and in the Middlebury College masters program. Voelker is the author of numerous articles on James Joyce and Irish literature and a book, Art and the Accidental in Anne Tyler (1989). He is married to Cathleen Voelker and the couple resides in Weatogue, CT. They have two grown daughters, Julia and Jessica.
