Thomas Dorer was appointed general counsel and secretary at the University of Hartford in 2007. He was named a vice president in 2011. Previously, he served as general counsel at West Virginia University (2002–07) and associate counsel at the University of Massachusetts (1994–2002).
Dorer was an associate attorney at the law firm of Dow, Lohnes & Albertson from 1992 to 1994. He served as law clerk to the Hon. Anne E. Thompson, U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, from 1990 to 1992. Prior to attending law school, Dorer served in university administration at Brown University and Ohio University.
A member of, and volunteer with, the National Association of College and University Attorneys since 1998, Dorer received his JD from the University of California–Berkeley. He earned his EdM at Harvard University and his BA at Brown University.
