Painting

Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA)

The curriculum of the painting major intends to introduce the student to the methods and materials of a diverse range of painting styles and techniques. Introductory-level courses train the student in a variety of materials: oil, acrylic, and water media. Intermediate courses deal with such topics as pictorial composition, abstract, and nonobjective painting, as well as traditional painting concerns, such as still life, figure, and others. Advanced students work on an increasingly independent basis pursuing their own vision and personal style. Special-topics courses are available for students wishing to pursue specific issues in painting (e.g., portraiture, mural painting, and others).
