Blackboard is a part of the University’s emergency planning and should be used for continuity of learning in the event of a major disruption to regular instruction, such as a blizzard. All University of Hartford courses are automatically set up on Blackboard at a basic level that includes faculty and student e-mails (updated daily) for each course. Blackboard provides a way of communicating with students and continuing teaching even if instructors and students cannot meet face-to-face.
Faculty are encouraged to attend a Blackboard basics orientation, held every Tuesday throughout the year, 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Woods Classroom in Mortensen Library. Faculty whose schedules do not permit them to attend a Tuesday session may e-mail FCLD to schedule an orientation at an alternate time, firstname.lastname@example.org.
It would be helpful if instructors included a full list of the semester’s readings and assignments in their syllabus so that any interruption in classes does not mean an interruption in what is expected of students. Instructors are encouraged to upload their syllabus to Blackboard; this process requires just a few clicks and a submit button.
