Academic and Career Support Services

The University has a number of services to support students' academic and career goals. Many of these services are available to the part-time students. For more information about the variety of services available, visit the Career Services website.

Campus Bookstore

The campus bookstore is located in the Harry Jack Gray Center. It carries textbooks, office supplies, discounted software, clothing, mugs, other items with the University logo, snacks, and drug store items. The bookstore is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For a more convenient option, textbooks, software, and logo items can also be purchased through the online bookstore and delivered right to your door. Dining on Campus

The following dining spots are those that are available for part-time students, located near academic buildings and/or are open during evening hours. For a complete listing of dining spots on campus, visit www.hartford.edu, click on campus life on the left-hand menu, then on dining services.

Gengras Café: Located on the main floor of the Gengras Student Union, the Café serves hot meals, sandwiches, salads, deserts, and beverages. It is open Monday–Thursday, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. and 3 p.m.–7 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Einstein Bros. Bagels, located in the Café, is open 7:30 a.m.–4 p.m. Call 860.768.4817 with any questions or concerns.

Dorothy Goodwin Café: Located in the Mortensen Library in the Harry Jack Gray Center, it serves tea and coffee, pastries, bagels, sandwiches, and snacks. It is open Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.

The 1877 Club in the Harry Jack Gray Center serves buffet-style hot meals in a fine dining atmosphere. It is open Tuesday–Friday, 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

Note: After 7 p.m. there are no open food vendors on the academic side of campus.

Emergency Closing Information

Call 860.768.4100 or check www.hartford.edu to find information on emergency closings. Since the University of Hartford is a residential campus, it is very unusual for daytime classes to be cancelled due to weather. The decision to cancel evening classes is typically made by 3 p.m. and is posted on the website.

Financial Assistance

Graduate and Adult Academic Service Center

Located on the second floor of the Computer Center and Administration Building. This office responds to inquiries for information on graduate programs, the Bachelor of University Studies Program, the Paralegal Studies Program and the Arts and Sciences Certificate Programs. Center staff members also assist non-matriculated graduate and undergraduate students with registration issues and application procedures. The office is open Monday–Thursday, 8:30 a.m.–7 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Call 860.768.4371 for more information.

Libraries

The University libraries consist of the William H. Mortensen Library, the Mildred P. Allen Memorial Library for the performing arts, and the Bess Graham Electronic Resource Center on the Asylum Avenue Campus. The main academic library, Mortensen Library, is located in the Harry Jack Gray Center midway between the university's academic and residential buildings.

Public Safety

The University's Department of Public Safety is active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Public safety officers patrol the campus regularly and are available to assist students in need with escort services, loan of jumper cables, and other safety- and traffic-related issues. All public safety officers are trained in emergency medical response. The emergency number for Public Safety is 860.768.7777 from an off-campus or cell phone or x7777 from an on-campus phone. The Department of Public Safety is located in the Operations and Maintenance Building and the general contact number is 860.768.7985.
