Barney Students Study One of the World's Leading Financial and Insurance Markets

Barney School of Business student Landle Cheng and 17 other students, along with two faculty members, traveled to London in June to study one of the world’s leading financial and insurance markets.

Led by finance professors Susan Coleman and Carmen Cotei, the group stayed at Regents University London. They attended class lectures, listened to guest speakers, and went on several corporate visits. Aside from the course, students were encouraged to explore the city and were given "Tube" passes and took red bus tours between classes.  The group also had the opportunity to see the musical “Kinky Boots.”

Landle, a recent Barney school graduate, who studied accounting, was lucky enough to end his Barney School experience with this phenomenal opportunity to study abroad. “We were fortunate to visit many great establishments, like the European Bank, XL Catlin Insurance, Lloyd’s of London, the Bank of England, and AIG. During many of our corporate visits we met with Barney School alumni, such as Neil Minnich, a senior vice president at American International Group within the EMEA region, Jesper Stjernfalt, Chief Financial Officer at Carrier, and Monika Wasiak, Production Underwriter at FM Global.”

“Our once-in-a-lifetime trip was truly a journey that has broadened my and other students’ perspectives on the financial. Insurance and risk markets on a global scale," Landle stated. "I cannot insist enough how much of an amazing experience this has been, and I strongly encourage other students to take this opportunity.”

Two undergraduate students blogged about their experiences throughout the week. The blog can be read here.
