Who is eligible for the Summer Business Institute (SBI)?

he program is ideal for rising high school juniors, seniors, and incoming Barney School of Business freshmen.

How selective is the process of admission? 
The program will consist of approximately 25 students selected from applications well beyond the seat availability.

What is the criteria for selection?
A guidance counselor recommendation is the base requirement. Although high GPA/SAT scores along with a pattern of achievement and involvement are important, particular emphasis is placed on the overall presence and enthusiasm that the candidate exhibits in the personal interview with the SBI program director.

Is there a tuition charge for the program?
Yes. The fee of $2,750 for the Barney Summer Business Institute covers tuition, materials fee, room & board for the entire program.

What exactly are the dates and daily times of the Summer Business Institute?
Classes will be held Monday through Friday 9 AM to 5 PM from July 30 - August 11, 2017. Students will stay in residential halls during the week and are expected to go home during the weekend that falls in between the two week program.

Can the student's parents take part in any of the activities?
Yes. In fact, we encourage it at different times during the program. After residence check in on Sunday of the first week of the program, there will be a welcome barbecue during which there will be a one hour introduction to the Summer Business Institute. The President of the University and the Dean of the Barney School will address both the students and any parents who are interested in attending. In addition, on the final day of the program there will be final presentations (poster sessions) and brief graduation/awards ceremony that parents are highly encouraged to attend.

When and where will the applicants be interviewed?
The Undergraduate Program Director will arrange interviews for each of the applicants recommended by their Guidance Counselor during the months of February, March and early April. Those who may be unavailable on that date may schedule an on-campus interview at a more convenient time.

When will the students be informed as to whether or not they have been accepted?
The applicants will normally be informed of their status by their guidance counselor by the 1st of July 2017.
