Accounting Certificate Program

The Barney School of Business offers an Accounting Certificate Program to students who hold an undergraduate degree in a field other than accounting. If you are seeking to obtain basic accounting education to improve your knowledge of accounting, this program delivers a foundation to build a strong skill set for today’s competitive workplace.

Prior to taking other accounting courses, students must successfully complete the following course or an equivalent:

  • MBA 612 Accounting Concepts (3 credits)

Students then complete a minimum of four additional courses (up to a maximum of six additional courses). The following two courses are required of all students completing the Accounting Certificate.

  • AC 320 – Financial Reporting Theory I
  • AC 321 – Financial Reporting Theory II

Students then select a minimum of two courses (up to a maximum of four courses) from the following list:

  • AC 322 – Financial Reporting Theory III
  • AC 332 – Cost Management
  • AC 425 – Federal Income Tax Concepts
  • AC 430 – Auditing Concepts and Problems

Students interested in the Accounting Certificate may apply online under graduate admissions on the University of Hartford website. The application requirements include: an application form, official transcripts, a current resume, a letter of intent and two letters of reference. Students with undergraduate degrees from outside of the US will need to submit a WES evaluation along with their TOEFL scores for review. However, the certificate program does not satisfy the requirements for certain visas.

Please note that a successful completion of the certificate program does not guarantee admission to the MSAT program. Direct any questions to Dr. Weaver at pweaver@hartford.edu.
