John Kniering, Director of Career Services

John Kniering

John has worked in various corporate environments as an Organization Development practitioner, a Human Resources generalist, and a Training & Development specialist. For eight years, he was a surface line officer aboard combat vessels and a Leadership & Management instructor at the Naval Officer Candidate School. Presently, John is the Director of the Career Services office, and meets with students daily as they navigate the career development process. John has been a Career Development practitioner at the University of Hartford since 1986.

Linda Schultz, Associate Director, Career Development & Education

Linda SchultzLinda is our National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC - Connecticut) with over 15 years of experience in career counseling. Linda's specialties include implementation of job search strategies, overcoming barriers to employment, selecting academic majors, choosing effective internship opportunities and administering assessments. Linda loves working with students, and serves as the Career Services liaison to The College of Education, Nursing, and Health Professions, and the Bachelor of University Studies program.

Jennifer Siegal, Assistant Director, Student Retention Programs

Jennifer Siegal

Jennifer joined Career Services in summer 2015.  She serves as the liaison for Hillyer College and The College of Arts and Sciences, working especially with students who have not yet decided on a major. As a graduate of the University of Hartford, Jennifer loves the uniqueness of the university, and enjoys working with the diverse population of students. Jenn earned her Master of Education degree in psychology with specialization in school counseling from Springfield College. 

Ricky Barrett, Assistant Director, Employer Relations

Ricky BarrettRicky has a long history of work with college students, and his goal is to help students be the best version of themselves every day. Making the best of their today's the worst of their tomorrow's. His favorite quote to share is: "Service to others is the rent we pay for space on this Earth. How are you paying your rent?" – M. Ali. In Career Services, Ricky serves as the liaison to the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture, and also works with our student-athletes on career and personal development. Ricky holds a Master of Science in Education in Higher Education from California State University, Fullerton.

Katie Kitchens, Assistant Director, Technology & Communication

Katie KitchensKatie is new to Career Services, but has been working at the University of Hartford since 2014. Her background is in higher education, and she enjoys helping University of Hartford students explore their strengths and passions, and plan and prepare for their lives after college. She serves as liaison to the School of Communication, The Hartt School, and The Hartford Art School. She also maintains the Career Services website, manages the social media accounts for the office, and develops marketing materials for Career Services events. Katie earned her Master of Education from the University of Virginia in Student Affairs Practice in Higher Education.

Marsha Gaulin, Office Coordinator

Marsha Gaulin

Marsha Gaulin is the Office Coordinator for Career Services where she has worked since 2006.  Her responsibilities include managing the scheduling of the career advisors, assisting with career events, managing the office budget, supervising the student workers and training students on our CareerBridge system.  Marsha earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Foreign Languages and Literature from the University of Hartford.  She has just completed her NCDA Global Career Development Facilitator Training and is in the process of applying for her credential.

Lauren Johnson, Administrative Intern

Lauren JohnsonLauren is the graduate intern for the Office of Career Services. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Hartford in 2014. Lauren works primarily on research and assessment of Career Services programs, and is currently working on our post-graduate survey. Lauren is pursuing her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology.
