The Leadership Challenge® Workshop

  • Developed by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, authors of the best-selling book, The Leadership Challenge.
  • Nationally recognized and award-winning program based on extensive research of the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership.
  • Interactive and engaging, approaches leadership as a learnable, measurable and teachable set of behaviors.
  • Uses a 360-degree assessment, the Leadership Practices Inventory, video cases, experiential learning, and leaders’ personal stories.

The foundation of the TLCW workshop is The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership® that characterize the most effective leaders – those who get extraordinary things done in organizations. Individuals who increase the frequency of these five leadership practices have been shown to have higher credibility and higher-performing teams.  It is based on the premise that leadership is ‘learn-able’.

The other key feature is an assessment tool, The Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI). This tool is a behavioral-based 360-degree survey. Participants receive feedback on how others perceive them as leaders and how frequently they engage in the Five Practices. Prior to the workshop, each participant completes the assessment and chooses raters to do the same. Raters include their boss, direct reports, peers/coworkers, and others (clients or customers). A confidential individual report is then prepared and given to each participant in the workshop and enables personalized action plans to be created by each participant.

The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership® of exemplary leaders which are the core of the workshop are:

  1. Modeling the Way
  2. Inspiring a Shared Vision
  3. Challenging the Process
  4. Enabling Others to Act
  5. Encouraging the Heart
