Good News for Amanda Weaver '11
The Hartford Courant reported Wednesday that former University of Hartford women's basketball player Amanda Weaver "is recovering from successful surgery to treat colon cancer and has been declared cancer-free."
Weaver, 24, a 2011 graduate of the University, was a four-year member of the women’s basketball team, and served as team captain during her senior year. She was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in June 2012, just weeks after completing her first year in the physical therapy graduate program.
On Sept. 8, more than 1,000 people – including friends, family members, former teammates and coaches, and members of the women's basketball community – took part in the "Walk for Weaver" to help support Weaver and raise money toward her medical expenses.
This Friday (Sept. 28), The Hartt School will be hosting a fundraising event to help with Weaver's medical expenses, featuring a bake sale, live music, and more. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the Harry Jack Gray Center lawn.
