Despite bad weather, The Hartt School surpassed its $500 goal and raised $815 during its Sept. 28 fundraising event to help support former women's basketball player Amanda Weaver '11, who has been battling colon cancer. Proceeds will go toward Weaver's medical expenses.

The fundraiser, which included a bake sale and live music, was organized by Natalie Wing, coordinator of academic studies at Hartt.

The Hartford Courant recently reported that Weaver, a four-year member of the women's basketball team, is recovering from successful surgery and has been declared cancer-free.
