HAS Alumni Exhibition, Faculty Exhibition to Open with Receptions Thursday
The Hartford Art School Juried Alumni Exhibition and the Hartford Art School Faculty Exhibition both will open with receptions on Thursday, Oct. 17.
The alumni exhibition is on display at the Silpe Gallery in the Hartford Art School. The opening reception will take place on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Silpe Gallery.
The faculty exhibition will be on display in the Joseloff Gallery. The opening reception for the faculty exhibition also will take place on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. (in the Joseloff Gallery).
Both receptions and exhibitions are free and open to the public.
The annual Hartford Art School Juried Alumni Exhibition showcases the best work being produced by the talented alumni of the Hartford Art School, as chosen by an invited guest juror. The 2013 guest juror was Judith Tolnick Champa, critic, freelance curator, and editor-in-chief of Art New England magazine.
During the opening reception on Thursday, three cash prizes and a one-week exhibition opportunity in the Silpe Gallery will be awarded to exhibiting alumni.
Of the 128 pieces submitted for the alumni exhibition, 47 works by 29 individual alumni were selected for display. The exhibiting alumni received a variety of degrees, from BFA to MAEd, and represent a wide range of graduation years, from the Class of 1964 to the Class of 2013.
The alumni exhibition will run through Nov. 6.
Silpe Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
The 2013 Hartford Art School Faculty Exhibition features works by distinguished studio faculty who teach in ceramics, drawing, illustration, media arts, sculpture, painting, photography, printmaking, visual communication design, and foundation studies.
The faculty exhibition will run through Dec. 1.
Faculty participating in the exhibition include: Doug Andersen, Cat Balco, Power Boothe, Robert Calafiore, Harriet Caldwell, Ellen Carey, Alan Carlstrom, Nathan Carris Carnes, LeaAnn Cogswell, Jaclyn Conley, Terry Donsen Feder, Susan Bogle Finnegan, Jenni Freidman, Mary Frey, Hirokazu Fukawa, Gilles Giuntini, Gene Gort, Walter Hall, Deb Kline, Jim Lee, Scot MacCluggage, Reynard F. Milici, Dennis Nolan, John Nordyke, Carol Padberg, Ruta Parker, Jeremiah Patterson, Chris Piascik, Natacha Poggio, Chuck Primeau, Jimmy Rhea, Dan Roe, Kevin Sepe, Mark Snyder, Bill Thomson, Murray Tinkelman, Matt Towers, Michael Vahrenwald, John Willis, and Ryan Wolfe.
Joseloff Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The gallery will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29, for the Thanksgiving break.
