University to Begin Work on Arts and Technology Center
“The Renée Samuels Center is vital to our future as a visual arts school of the highest rank,” said University President Walter Harrison. “It will bring renewed excitement and competitive strength to the Hartford Art School.”
The project, which is expected to be completed by February 2007, also includes renovations to expand and improve the space for the Hartford Art School’s Printmaking and Painting and Drawing departments, and the Foundation Studies program.
The new building will enable HAS students and faculty to explore more fully the relationship between digital technology and art.
“There will be ample space for the kind of experimentation and cross-disciplinary collaborations that will give our students unprecedented opportunities to grow and explore their talents,” said HAS Dean Power Boothe.
“The impact of digital technology has been extraordinary. It affects the way we live, work, and play,” Boothe said. “Investing in this arts and technology center demonstrates a commitment by the University to embrace an exciting interdisciplinary vision that will bring national distinction to the University of Hartford, as well as the Hartford Art School.”
