Summer Dance Classes
In addition to a selection of summer courses for adults and the intensive dance student, the Community Division offers fun classes for children.
First Steps in Music is a week-long series of classes that involve both parents and children ages birth to 5 in learning a repertoire of songs and rhymes that they will be able to share for a lifetime. The rich body of traditional children's folk songs and rhymes inspire the activities with the intent of preserving and passing on this important cultural heritage to today's children. Two sessions will be held, July 17 to 21 and August 14 to 18, at the Simsbury location.
Music & Movement is a new collaboration between Hartt’s Dance Department and First Steps in Music. The week-long program is designed for children ages 3 to 5. Each day, students will participate in a music class, a movement class, and a dance- or music-related activity or craft. Activities incorporate movement, creativity, socialization, and musical awareness. There will be time for free play on various percussion instruments and children will have the opportunity to sing both with the group and independently. Two sessions, July 24 to 28 and August 7 to 11, will be held at the Simsbury location.
The Ballet Workshop is a half-day program for children ages 3 to 8 which features a different theme each week. Workshop activities include creative movement, pre-ballet, multi-cultural and choreographed dances, related arts and crafts, and creating costume pieces and props for a small studio performance. Fairy Tales week takes place July 10 to 14 in Simsbury; How Does Your Garden Grow runs July 17 to 21 in Simsbury and July 24 to 28 in Hartford; and A Week with Mother Goose is August 14 to 18 in Simsbury.
