'Thank You' to the University Community
Posted 9/13/2005
University of Hartford, Students, Faculty, and Staff,
It is with great appreciation and gratitude that we are writing this letter. With the help of this campus, Alpha Sigma Phi has surpassed any goals we may have set in terms of fundraising for the Hurricane Katrina victims. We have collected over $1,000 in cash thanks to walk-in donations, as well as the “Dorm Storm” held on Monday night (Sept. 5). Over 70 cases of water were collected, as well as a plethora of hygiene goods, non-perishable foods, and batteries and flashlights.
Alpha Sigma Phi would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to BL Companies, located in Meriden, Conn. The company has agreed to match whatever we have collected, thus doubling the size of our already substantial donation.
With the help of the Center for Community Service, Mail Services, and the officials and volunteers at the State Armory in Hartford, all of the donations are being shipped down to the Mississippi and Louisiana areas to help with disaster relief. The donations are sure to be met with the gratitude of the people they will help.
Again thank you for everyone’s help. Without the close-knit community that exists on this campus, none of this would be possible. If anyone is interested in making additional donations, the Center for Community Service in Gengras Student Union will be accepting donations all week. Donations are also being accepted by the Red Cross, AmeriCares Foundation, and other non-profit organizations in the Harford area.
Sincerely,
The Brothers of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity
