Would you like to be a role model for an eighth-grade student?

Educational Main Street (EMS) is looking for staff members to participate in the Fox Middle School Shadowing Career Day on Wednesday, Oct. 26. Participating staff members will have an eighth-grader from Hartford’s Fox Middle School shadow them at their job for three hours, from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

The goal is to encourage these students to aspire to careers that require a college education or some form of post-secondary education or training. Staff members who volunteer to be “shadowed” will be asked to mention the higher education and skills they needed to obtain their job, and the importance of a post-secondary education.

EMS would like as many staff members as possible to participate, and would like to have a wide range of departments and jobs represented. As EMS organizers point out, volunteers in these kinds of programs usually gain at least as much from the experience as the people they are helping.

If you would like to volunteer for Fox Middle School Shadowing Career Day, or if you have any questions, please contact Louise Melanson at 768.5448 or melanson@hartford.edu as soon as possible.
