Center for Social Research Awarded $1 Million Grant
Posted 9/21/2005
The university’s Center for Social Research (CSR) has received a $1 million, three-year state grant to study vulnerable families in Hartford.
The grant, from the Connecticut Children’s Trust Fund, will allow the CSR to expand on research that it has conducted over the past ten years on vulnerable families in Connecticut and home visitation as an intervention strategy.
Under the grant, the center will assess the effectiveness of home visitation services in strengthening parenting practices. In addition, the CSR will examine the causes of vulnerability at multiple levels: at the policy level (employment, housing, child care, early education, prison, health care, welfare) and at the neighborhood and household levels (available resources, community organization and services, parenting strategies and practices, inter-generational histories of violence and abuse).
The research will be conducted by co-principal investigators Tim Black, director of the Center for Social Research; Mary Erdmans of Central Connecticut State University; and Meredith Damboise of Research Solutions, along with research staff Madelyn Figueroa, Dawn Fuller-Ball, Erik Beach, and Kevin Lamkins.
