A group of Hillyer College students got a close-up look at the world of professional baseball last weekend when they traveled to Shea Stadium to meet with New York Mets management.

Students in Professor Woody Doane's honors class, "Sports and Society," traveled to Queens on Sept. 17 to visit with University of Hartford alumnus Gary LaRocque ’75, a scouting executive with the Mets. The former Hawk, who began his career as a player with the Milwaukee Brewers franchise, has also been a coach, manager, and vice president with professional baseball for the past 30 years.

LaRocque discussed time management with the students and the challenges of operating a baseball franchise with eight minor league affiliates in the U.S. and in other countries.
