2010 U.S. Census Road Tour Coming to Campus Monday
The 2010 Census Portrait of America Road Tour will make a stop on the University of Hartford campus on Monday, Feb. 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Suisman Lounge, Gengras Student Union.
The first 500 students in attendance will receive a free T-shirt and other giveaways! This stop on the tour is hosted by the University's Center for Community Service.
Once every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau conducts a complete count of everyone living in the United States. Monday's event is designed to educate students about the upcoming census count, and how a complete count will benefit the University community, students' hometown communities, and communities across the nation. Students will be able to see sample 2010 Census forms and learn how the collected information is used. They will also have a chance to record their personal histories by contributing stories and photos to the Portrait of America project.
The 2010 Census Portrait of America Road Tour will travel thousands of miles and visit a wide range of events taking place in communities across the continental United States, and in Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Other planned stops include the Super Bowl and the NCAA Final Four.
Census data are used to apportion seats in Congress and directly affect how more than $400 billion per year in federal funding is distributed to state, local and tribal governments. The census forms will be mailed in mid-March 2010.
