VNA HealthCare Awards Scholarship to Nursing Student

VNA HealthCare Inc. has awarded a scholarship to University of Hartford student Coleen Smart as part of its Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing gala. Smart is a junior in the RN to BSN program in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP) and a transplant nurse at Hartford Hospital.
Smart accepted her award from Ellen Rothberg, president and CEO of VNA HealthCare, at a breakfast on April 16.
VNA HealthCare awarded $500 each to five deserving students nominated by their schools to encourage and support careers in nursing. VNA HealthCare has awarded over $46,000 in scholarships since the Nightingale program began in 2003. The Nightingale Awards event is a recognition program that will be held for the eighth time this year in Hartford. Representing more than 31 health care institutions, 103 nurses will be honored at a dinner for 500 to be held on May 6.
