The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote today (Thursday, Nov. 10) on whether to cut $15 billion to student loan programs. These cuts are part of the Fiscal 2006 budget reconciliation bill aimed at deficit reduction.

The National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) is urging citizens to call their congressmen/women and ask them to oppose the bill, which, according to NAICU, would result in the largest cuts ever in student loan funding.

To call Congress, NAICU recommends that people either use the Capitol Switchboard (202.225.3121) or the Student Aid Alliance hotline (1.800.574.4AID), and ask for their representative’s office.
