An article in the Nov. 16 issue of UNotes (“What You Need to Know About Tuition Abatement”) failed to mention that the tuition abatement benefit is available to same-sex partners of full-time university employees.

In September, the Board of Regents approved the recommendation of the Benefits Task Force to extend the full range of university-sponsored benefits to same-sex partners of university employees, effective Oct. 1, 2005.

These benefits include tuition remission, tuition exchange, the employee assistance program (EAP), dental insurance, spousal and dependent child life insurance, personal accident insurance, as well as discounted Sports Center memberships.

The university extended medical coverage to same-sex partners of its employees in July 2000.
