John G. Mehm, associate director of the Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology (GIPP), College of Arts and Sciences, was recently voted president-elect of the Connecticut Psychological Association (CPA). Mehm will serve as president-elect for 2006 and as CPA president for 2007 and 2008.

Mehm has served on the CPA Board of Directors since 1998. His service on the association's Convention Committee has facilitated the increased involvement of University of Hartford students and faculty as convention presenters. Mehm also has served as chair of the CPA Awards Committee for the past eight years and is a founding member of the association's Ethnic Diversity Task Force.

Mehm helped to establish a Student Division of CPA and give full voting privileges to the student representative to the Board of Directors. This development enabled graduate students from the University of Hartford, the University of Connecticut, and Fairfield University to participate in the annual State Leadership Conference of the American Psychological Association (APA) in Washington, D.C.

Three University of Hartford faculty members previously served as president of the Connecticut Psychological Association: David Komisar (1965-66), former chair of the Psychology Department, A&S Dean, and University Provost; Michael Klaber (1969-70), who directed the Psychology Department's school psychology program for 25 years; and Catherine Acuff (1987-88), who subsequently joined the GIPP faculty and was preparing her candidacy for APA president before her untimely death.
