Professor Emeritus of Economics Richard S. Martin, who played a key role in building the economics program in the Barney School of Business, passed away in November 2008.
Martin served as chair of the Department of Economics from 1968-1980, and again from 1983-1987.
“The department appreciates the many special efforts and dedication of Dick Martin in building up the programs and the faculty,” said Bharat Kolluri, professor of economics and chair of the Economics, Finance and Insurance Department at the Barney School.
Martin held a BA in economics from Harvard University and a PhD in economics from Cornell. He was the author of many publications and manuscripts, including a number of projects that he completed while working for General Electric Co. over a period of 12 years.
