The Slave Narrative When most Americans think about slave narratives, they probably imagine tales of violence, horror, and oppression marshaled in support of the abolitionist movement, but this is only part of the story of a fascinating literary form that has come to occupy a significant place in African American literary history. We will discuss the rise of the slave narrative in an academic context and talk about why this form has become a significant part of modern literary studies. There will be four sessions.
