Earlier this month, three University of Hartford students were recognized in the 2014 Entrepreneurial Jumpstart Prize contest.

Open to all University undergraduate students, the contest focuses on a written business proposal for a “brilliant idea.” It is designed to foster strategic thinking as well as writing quality, both necessary ingredients for early stage funding. To be eligible, students must have taken two business courses.

Frank Finelli, an entrepreneurship major in the Barney School of Business, was one of the award winners. His business plan for “Smart Switch” focuses on a business-to-business service model for providing high-resolution 3D printing to firms lacking the resources to own such equipment in-house.

Adam Paul and Christopher Vincent, acoustical engineering majors in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture, were also prize winners. Their plan entails developing a software program that will give users an idea of what a room will sound like before it is built based on inputs such as room dimensions, surface materials, and intended room use(s). Users will then be able to make design changes and perfect their room design to match its intended use.

Winners received a $500 prize intended to support further development of their idea. The next Entrepreneurial Jumpstart Prize contest will occur next spring, so begin working on your brilliant idea now!
