Sandström to Give Talk on South Africa Sunday

Associate Professor Emeritus Harald M. Sandström will give a talk on "South Africa – And Some Comparisons of Black Power/Black Consciousness in the United States, the West Indies, and South Africa" on Sunday, March 17, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Asylum Hill Congregational Church, Twichell Room, 814 Asylum St., Hartford.

The talk is hosted by the Farmington Valley Chapter of the Links, Inc. “Sundays @ 4.” The Links’ International Trends & Services Committee is focused upon providing a greater awareness of global issues and concerns.

Sandström taught in the Department of Politics and Government for 41 years before retiring in 2010. He did his doctoral research on the Black Power movement in the West Indies, had a National Endowment for the Humanities summer fellowship to study black American protest in the 20th century, and did research on Steve Biko and Black Consciousness in South Africa while serving as visiting professor at the University of Cape Town.

The talk is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
