Now in its second decade, the Miró Quartet – Daniel Ching, violin; William Fedkenheuer, violin; John Largess, viola; and Joshua Gindele, cello – is acknowledged as one of America’s premier quartets, having won virtually every important chamber music prize available, including the Naumberg Award and the Avery Fisher Career Grant. The New York Times has described the Quartet as having "…explosive vigor and technical finesse."
For this appearance, the Miró will be joined by the sensational Scottish percussionist Colin Currie, for an evening that will include several works written expressly for these five musicians, along with traditional quartet-only repertoire.
The program for this concert will include: Quartet in C minor, D. 703, "Quartettsatz" – Schubert; Nagoya Marimbas for percussion – S. Reich; Since Brass nor Stone… for string quartet and percussion – A. Goehr; Mojave for percussion – M. Torke; Molto adagio from Quartet in B minor, Op. 11 – Barber; all three movements of Strophe (2013) for vibraphone and string quartet – J. Pereira; and Starry Night for string quartet and percussion – S. Martland.
