Bilal Sekou, associate professor of political science in Hillyer College and chairman of the board of Common Cause in Connecticut, was featured at a press conference that Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill held to announce proposals to increase access to voting rights for citizens of Connecticut. Sekou was quoted in a CT Mirror news story on Thursday, March 2, and he was highlighted in March 2 stories on CT News Junkie.com and on WTNH-TV Channel 8 News.
Michael Robinson, associate professor of history in Hillyer College, was quoted in the “Science Snapshot” column in USA Today on Saturday, March 3, about exploration of the planet Mars in conjunction with the release of the major motion picture John Carter, which is based on the book by Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs. Al DiChiara, professor of sociology and director of the criminal justice program in the College of Arts and Sciences, was quoted in a story in the Waterbury Republican-American on Monday, March 5, about “The Second District,” a new urban crime drama set in Hartford that is scheduled to debut on national television. William Major, an associate professor of English in Hillyer College, had an opinion article published in the Friday, Feb. 24 issue of the Daily Yonder newspaper. The article was in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the Buffalo Creek Mining Disaster on Feb. 26, 1972, when 125 people were killed in rural West Virginia when waste and sludge from coal mining flooded small towns along Buffalo Creek.
