Tuesday, March 3: University Closing at 7 p.m.

Due to expected storm conditions, the University will close at 7 p.m. this evening. All classes starting at or after 7 p.m. are canceled. Individual professors may opt to conduct classes or provide assignments online when the campus is closed, so students should check Blackboard and their email to learn of any alternate arrangements.

All Hartt Community Division activities after 3 p.m. today are canceled.

Power and Progress Business Women's Symposium

Keynote Speaker: Kim Sirois Pita

Kim Pita of The Pita Group will be the keynote speaker at the Power and Progress Business Women's Symposium.


Kim has more than 20 years of experience as a writer, editor, marketing strategist and entrepreneur. At The Pita Group, she currently heads up the agency’s financial management. She has worked as a congressional press secretary, communications manager and newspaper editor before starting the business in 1996 with her partner, Paul Pita.

Kim serves on the board of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) and heads up the Small Business Advisory Council. She is also a member of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving Catalyst Steering Committee. She has served on boards including Hartford Children’s Theatre, Girl Scouts of Connecticut, Rocky Hill Chamber of Commerce and Rebuilding Together Hartford. She was the recipient of the CT Chapter March of Dimes 1997 Rookie Volunteer of the Year award, was named to the “40 under 40” list by the Hartford Business Journal in 1999 and was honored with an Alumni Achievement Award from her alma mater, Framingham State College, in 2006. Kim is currently writing a memoir about her life transformation after the tragic death of her younger sister, who suffered from mental illness and post-traumatic stress disorder. A mother of two, Kim also regularly posts on her personal blog, PeaceofPita.com.
