Local Business Women Win CT InnovateHER Competition

December 14, 2015

The University of Hartford’s Women’s Business Center (WBC) and the Microsoft Store at Westfarms hosted local InnovateHER challenges aimed at discovering innovative products and services that positively impact the lives of women and families. Gloria Kolb of Elidah, LLC won the challenge at the WBC and Ashley Stone of Beauty Entourage won the challenge at the Microsoft store.

Entrepreneurial Center Celebrates 30 Years of Building CT Small Businesses: Strong Team, Big Impact

The University of Hartford’s Entrepreneurial Center (EC) marked 30 years of helping small businesses in Connecticut succeed with a celebration on Thursday, November 12. The evening featured an impromptu visit by Senator Blumenthal, a showcase of small businesses who have started and grown with the assistance of the EC, and several speakers. The event also acknowledged the success of the EC’s largest initiative, the Women’s Business Center (WBC), which has been funded by the US Small Business Administration (SBA) since 1999.

Entrepreneurial Center and The Metropolitan District Recognized for Work with Minority Small Businesses in CT

The Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission (APAAC) recognized the work of the University of Hartford’s Entrepreneurial Center (EC) and The Metropolitan District (MDC) during their May 28 event, APA Small Business Achievement & Recognition Reception. APAAC thanked both organizations for “highlight[ing] the importance of APA businesses” in Connecticut. APAAC, the EC, and the EC initiative, the Women’s Business Center, pledged to work together to continue servicing the APA community’s business needs.

CT Business Matchmaker Event Rolls Out Opportunity & Welcome Mat for Small Business Owners

When it comes to business, making the right connections is key to success. Getting large and small companies in the same room and talking to each other is often difficult. On Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., that’s a challenge the Connecticut Business Matchmaker event will solve when it hosts 42 state and federal agencies, large corporations and municipalities that want to do business with small business. CT Business Matchmaker will be held at the University of Hartford's Gengras Student Union, 200 Bloomfield, Avenue, West Hartford, CT.

Barney School of Business Collaboration Helps Small Business Owners Increase Success

It’s graduation time, but students aren’t the only ones going to the next level. That’s because the University of Hartford’s Barney School of Business and Entrepreneurial Center have teamed up to give small businesses the help they need. Through a grant by Women’s Education and Legal Fund (WELFund), 7 local businesses, including three women-owned enterprises, were selected for a business consulting project.

Mom Creates Tech Tools to Track Parent Engagement In Schools

It's a problem Hartford parent and long-time education advocate Lillian Arciniegas set out to solve. Arciniegas is the creator of Parent Engagement Tracker, a service that provides technology-based solutions to help school staff and busy parents work together to boost student and school success.

Entrepreneurial Center Receives Leadership Award for Support of Women in Construction

The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) presented a “Leadership Award” to the University of Hartford’s Entrepreneurial Center (EC) in a ceremony at the State Capitol on March 4, 2015. Sandra Cahill, Director, received the award on behalf of the Center, which was recognized for the significant impact it has had on opening up opportunities for women in construction through its Women’s Business Center, which is funded in part by the US Small Business Administration.
