Students come to the English Language Institute from around the world.
Miguel Angel Jimenez
Miguel came to the University of Hartford from Madrid, Spain, and studied in ELI during the 2009-2010 academic year. He says that learning English in an American atmosphere was very important and that his English skills have been instrumental in helping him find a job in Spain. He has worked at Addeco Group (Lee Hecht Harrison, U.S.) and will begin a position as an external auditor at Ernst & Young in September 2011. When asked about his time studying in ELI, Miguel replied, “I have lived some of the best moments in my life studying in the University of Hartford. It´s a great opportunity to live with people who have other cultures. … It´s pretty cool to know that my year abroad wasn´t only for learning English, It was also a great experience to learn about other cultures, and grow as a better person.”
Originally from Japan, Haruka spent two semesters in ELI (Spring and Summer 2010) before enrolling in the Hartt School at the University of Hartford as a dance performance major. Though she is busy studying, she loves dancing at Hartt and still finds time to present her Japanese culture to students in area elementary schools. Starting in the fall of 2011, she hopes to work as a Japanese assistant in the International Center on campus.
