University of Hartford recognizes that staff development leads to responsible and effective administration while broadening the skills of staff, and that it is in the best interest of both the University and the individual.  Staff are responsible for providing the motivation for their development, since all development is self development.  The University is responsible for providing the opportunity and access to occupational education to the extent resources allow. (Staff Employment Manual, Chapter 6.04 – Staff Development).  With this in mind, I am reaching out to you regarding several training and educational opportunities being sponsored by HRD which are free of charge to University faculty and staff as outlined below.

Supervisory Training – Performance Issues – Refocusing Your Lens – will provide supervisors with an overview of various performance concerns as well as several facilitated dynamic group discussions.

University of Hartford 101 – will provide both new and seasoned faculty and staff with information about programs and services offered to University of Hartford employees presented directly by multiple campus department representatives.

Safe Passages (educational video) - will provide you with common sense principles and teach you how to be more situationally aware, instilling confidence when you travel.

Supervisory Training – Conducting an Effective Performance Appraisal – will provide supervisors with an informative hands-on program on how to conduct a meaningful annual Dialogue for Direction.

Date/Time:  Tuesday, April 22nd from 9-11:00am

Performance Appraisals for Non-supervisory Staff – will provide staff with an overview of this very important annual process, including the purpose and goals of the Dialogue for Direction.

Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Prevention in the Workplace – will provide you with understanding of applicable federal and state sexual harassment and discrimination laws as well University policy, outline avenues to report allegations as well as the role that each of us play in creating a safer campus by addressing and preventing instances of sexual harassment and/or discrimination in the workplace.  As a member of the University community, all faculty and staff are expected to participate in this educational program.  

*This two-hour training satisfies Connecticut state supervisory training requirements*

Recognizing and Preventing Workplace Violence – will provide you with a sharper lens from which to more clearly view your surroundings and help you recognize when low-threat behavior may be escalating towards possible violence.

Date/Time: Tuesday, May 13th 5 from 12:30-2:30pm

Supervisory Training – Employee Relations Issues – will provide supervisors with several facilitated case study group discussions regarding serious employee relations issues that may be encountered in the workplace.

Sexual Violence Prevention Training - will provide you with an understanding of the role that each of us play in creating a safer campus by addressing and preventing instances of sexual violence in the workplace.  This educational program is mandatory for all faculty and staff.

Threats on Campus – will provide you with information on how to respond in the event that there is a threat on campus.
