Associate Professor John Tapper teaches courses in mathematics, mathematics education, and science education. His focus is on helping teaching candidates learn best practices for teaching math and science. His approach is active, inquiry-based, and centered on the learner. He believes that all students can learn to do mathematics well.
Tapper has several research interests, but his work is grounded in finding ways to support struggling math learners to be successful. A mixed-methods researcher with extensive work in program evaluation, statistical analysis, and phenomenographic study, he believes in exploring learning at both the individual and systems levels. His most recent work includes a multi-level modeling approach to analyzing data on the SimCalc algebra intervention in Southeastern Massachusetts.
