Department of Rehabilitation Sciences
Assistant Professor Michael Wininger teaches integrative biology and neuroscience in the graduate prosthetics and orthotics (P&O) program. Students in the Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics (MSPO) curriculum learn basic neuroanatomy and neurophysiological principles essential to the generation of volitional movement, balance and coordination, and motor learning. Heavy reference is made to clinical application and understanding of disease and disability found in the patient population. Lab courses introduce students to numerical computation and modeling, as well as cutting-edge scientific work in P&O and allied fields. All students are trained in critical thinking, objective reasoning, and data analysis.
Wininger directs the Rehabilitation Computronics (RC) Laboratory in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences. The RC Lab focuses on bioinstrumentation, performance measures, and assistive devices. Specific topics include vibrotactile feedback, quantitative measures of movement smoothness, and robotic rehabilitation.
