The mission of the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions is to prepare professionals for service to the community. Our roots in the Greater Hartford area are deep, as demonstrated by the many partnerships with education, health, and community organizations that we have built and nurtured over the years.

Our mission:

The College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions provides a reflective, collaborative, and scholarly environment where we prepare professionals to teach, promote well-being, and become leaders in local, national, and global communities.

The statement firmly grounds us in the professions and communities within an academic and scholarly context. And herein, too, lies the direction toward our promising future.

Our vision:

The College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions will become a national model for the integration of health and education sciences with community engagement.

This vision serves as an ambitious goal to bridge academic life with real-world experiences. The challenge before all of us is to imagine and prepare pathways toward that integration of science and engagement.

In sum, our mission's emphasis on preparing teachers, promoters of well-being, and leaders serves as a beacon that grounds us in a rich past and leads us toward our future. Community partnerships in the education, health, and policy arenas are the key to our future successes. But bridging academic work and the needs of communities—translating theory into practice, and back—requires the resolve of all constituents to work collaboratively.

To that end, we created the Institute for Translational Research and its initial three subsidiary content centers:

In 2018, stewardship of a valued partnership, research, programmatic linkage, and funding efforts sparked the creation of a new center with a singular focus:

This center grew from an initiative in Montessori Studies to a second generation center with a singular focus.

Using internal and external expertise, the centers work toward one common goal: excellence through relevance.
